The fun part of CS

Based in Hālau ʻĪnana, this program uses technology education to foster student engagement, expression, and leadership. Students explore their world through imaginative digital and tactile/embodied arts and math content and make connections with guest experts from the community. 

  • All in person classes are located at Hālau ʻĪnana ma Mōʻiliʻili (4223 S Beretania St) 
  • All Summer classes are invited  to in person huakaʻi occurring in the first two weeks of term. 
  • Tech equipment available for those in need.

Fall I Courses

Fundamentals of Unity

July 5 – 26
Tuesdays, 5-6pm

Introduction to Unity: a real-time development platform used for game development, augmented and virtual reality, cinematics, and much more! For these summer workshops, we aim to focus on learning the fundamentals of Unity and game development.
Preferred age range: ʻopio (16+ years of age)5

Tech Tuesday: Waiwai - Scratch Jr.

Tuesday 6pm 

Learn various mele, ʻoli, and other ʻike on our beautiful water systems in Hawaii. Geared towards keiki ages 6+ years old. This course is a ONE DAY virtual course. 6:00 PM on August 16, 2022

Tech Tuesday: JavaScript & Puppetry!

August 23
Tuesday 4pm 

Let’s draw silly characters and then bring them to life onscreen by moving our bodies. Haumāna will learn a simple JavaScript program that maps their digital artwork to real time motion via webcam. This is a one day workshop available to all haumana across the pae ʻāina virtually.

Tech Tuesday: That's MAD!

September 13
Tuesday 6pm 

Make your own mad libs generator that you can use with your friends! Haumāna will learn the basics of HTML, CSS and JavaScript, all the while being able to customize a mad libs template to make their own! We hope you will join us on September 16th from 6-7:00 PM

Aloha ʻĀina Scratch

September 7 – October 5
Wednesdays 3:30-5pm
Haumāna will learn about aloha ʻāina with a large emphasis on mālama ʻāina and create a PSA through Scratch animation or games using block coding. Ideal for ʻōpio 8th grade+. Classes are online each Wednesday

Minecraft Wāhine

September 1 – October 6
Thursdays 4-5pm

Students will need a laptop or desktop computer in order to access Minecraft Education Edition/Minecraft Java. We will be focusing on creative Wāhine Artists.

Minecraft Wāhine - Hale Lab Extension

September 5
Thursdays 4-5pm

Extended course for Minecraft Wāhine to gain extra office hours and times building with Kumu Tee.

Pā'ani me ka Python

September 1 – 29
Monday & Thursdays 5:30-6:30pm

Pā’ani me ka Python will teach haumāna the basics of Python programming language over the course of 4 weeks. Haumāna will be able to create simple games and understand basic programming concepts by the end of the course. We hope you’ll join us every Monday and Thursday from 5:30-6:30 PM in September!

Mālama Manō: ‘Ike Kūpuna and Artificial Intelligence

September 15 – October 16
Monday & Thursdays 4-5pm

Haumāna will team up with a National Geographic research team working to learn from and better understand the sharks of the Hawaiian Islands. We will explore the lessons that manō and other marine creatures can teach us, and how we can use a combination of drones, artificial intelligence and insights from the ancestors to better kilo and mālama our ocean home.
